Publication Ethics
The Journal of Biotechnology and Sustainability (JBS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in order to ensure high-quality academic publications and reliable scientific findings. Although JBS is not yet a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the journal adheres to COPE’s principles, guidelines, and core practices throughout all stages of the publication process.
Editors’ Responsibilities
Editors are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts based on their academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s focus and scope. The editorial team ensures that all manuscripts undergo a fair, objective, and confidential peer-review process.
Editors must treat all submissions without discrimination and maintain the confidentiality of authors’ information and manuscript content. They are also required to avoid conflicts of interest and to take appropriate actions when ethical concerns arise, including cases of plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or duplicate publication.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Reviewers assist the editors in making editorial decisions by providing objective, constructive, and timely evaluations of submitted manuscripts. All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
Reviewers are expected to evaluate the scientific quality, originality, methodology, and clarity of the manuscript, and provide feedback that helps authors improve their work. Reviewers should disclose any potential conflicts of interest and report any suspected ethical issues, such as plagiarism or data manipulation, to the editors.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for submitting original research that has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All sources of information must be properly cited and acknowledged.
All individuals listed as authors must have made significant contributions to the research and the preparation of the manuscript. Authors must also disclose any potential conflicts of interest, ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data presented, and cooperate with the editorial team in the event that corrections, clarifications, or retractions are required.
Plagiarism and Research Ethics
Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited. All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software to ensure originality.
Research involving human participants or animals must comply with relevant ethical standards and regulations. Authors must ensure that appropriate ethical approval has been obtained and that the research has been conducted in accordance with recognized ethical guidelines.
Corrections and Retractions
When significant errors, ethical concerns, or cases of misconduct are identified in published articles, JBS will take appropriate action in accordance with established ethical guidelines. This may include issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
Publisher’s Responsibility
The publisher of JBS is committed to supporting editorial independence and ensuring that all publishing practices adhere to high ethical standards. The publisher also works to safeguard the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the academic record.
